Three Numbers That Matter
A windshield for a working vehicle has to survive impact, wiper abrasion, UV exposure and repeated replacement risk. These are the first checks before choosing glass or polycarbonate.
Polycarbonate absorbs impact energy without cracking or shattering like glass.
Hard coating is required where wipers, washer fluid or dusty service conditions are expected.
Correct thickness, coating and mounting details reduce repeated glass replacement downtime.
Glass vs Hard-Coated Polycarbonate
| Property | Glass | Hard-Coated Polycarbonate |
|---|---|---|
| Impact strength | Can shatter on impact | High impact resistance for cab and field service glazing |
| Weight | Approx. 2.5 g/cm3 | Approx. 1.2 g/cm3, reducing replacement and handling weight |
| Thermal range | Often specified around -20 to +80 C | -40 to +120 C continuous service range depending on grade |
| Scratch resistance | Hard surface | Requires 2H-4H hard coating for wiper applications |
| Forming | Limited after tempering | Can be thermoformed to curved cab and canopy profiles |
Wiper safety note: uncoated polycarbonate is not recommended for wiper use. Specify hard-coated PC and validate blade pressure, washer fluid and cleaning method.
In-House Process from Sheet to Windshield

UV-stabilized polycarbonate sheet, color and thickness prepared for downstream forming.

Dual-sided coating options for abrasion resistance, wiper safety and chemical resistance.

Black borders, logo marks, masking areas and OEM visual details can be printed before forming.

Flat, single-curved and formed 3D parts are produced against drawings, samples or tooling.
Industries and Vehicle Types
Each image below is matched to the application type, so buyers can quickly see where the windshield or transparent panel is used.

Excavators, haulers, loaders and bulldozers need impact-resistant cab glazing, curved replacement windshields and wiper-safe coating.

Lightweight, shatter-resistant windshields for golf carts, club cars, resorts and compact utility vehicles.

Optical-grade formed polycarbonate for touring, sport and adventure motorcycle screens with abrasion-resistant coating.

Lightweight transparent canopy and specialty aviation glazing where optical clarity and forming accuracy matter.

UV-stabilized transparent panels for observation wheel gondolas and amusement ride enclosures.

Panoramic windshields and side windows for tourist buses, park trams and scenic transport vehicles.

IATF 16949 Production for Global Equipment Brands
Bakway supplies formed polycarbonate windshields under a quality system used for construction, agriculture and heavy-equipment supply chains.
Production can combine extrusion, hard coating, screen printing and thermoforming in one workflow, reducing mismatch risk between material, coating and final part geometry.
Polycarbonate Windshield Questions
Can polycarbonate windshields replace glass directly?
Yes, when thickness, coating, curvature, mounting points and sealing details are checked from the original drawing or sample.
Is the windshield safe for wipers?
Wiper use requires a hard coating plus validation of blade pressure, washer fluid and cleaning practices.
Will polycarbonate scratch?
Uncoated PC scratches easily. Hard-coated PC is the right choice for vehicle cab glazing and daily cleaning.
Can you thermoform curved windshields?
Yes. Flat, single-curved and formed parts can be produced according to tooling, drawings and tolerance requirements.
