Yield: the size decision that moves the quote
Sheet buyers lose more money to yield than to unit price. Worked example: 1,000 finished panels of 950 × 620 mm. From 1,220 × 2,440 mm stock you nest 4 per sheet at 78% yield; from 2,100 mm-wide sheet cut to 1,940 mm length you nest 6 per sheet (two columns of three) at 87% yield — a 9-point yield swing that outweighs any negotiable price difference on the raw sheet. Two habits pay for themselves: send the finished-part dimensions with the RFQ and let the factory propose the mother-sheet size, and when ordering multiwall for roofing, order cut-to-final-length — field-cutting stock lengths wastes material and freight cube.

Tolerances to specify (and check on arrival)
Reasonable factory tolerances for extruded polycarbonate: thickness ±5% (solid), grammage ±3% (multiwall — specify g/m², not just nominal thickness), width ±3 mm on die widths, length +10/−0 mm on cut-to-length, squareness ≤ 3 mm/m on cut panels. Quotes that omit grammage or thickness tolerance are where “cheap” sheet hides — the sheet arrives legal to its own missing spec. Put the tolerance line in the purchase order; serious factories will countersign it.
